V21: Meet the New Generation Digital Business Models…

Melbourne – Thursday 15 April 2010

The desire to realise our ideas and dreams is fundamental to human nature. The only limitation on turning those ideas and dreams into something concrete in the digital age in which we now live, is our imagination and creativity – provided that we’re prepared to leave some baggage behind.

The interactivity that technology now enables, its ability to deliver information “anywhere, anytime” on the target audiences’ “platform of choice”, our expectation as consumers to get “more for less” year on year and our need as business people to continue to make profits – challenges traditional business models and demands continual innovation.

We’re at a tipping point where business success belongs to the creative and agile who are prepared to re-invent and rejuvenate traditional business models in any industry, to identify and exploit niches, to live with the fact that “barriers to entry” will continue to be eroded, and to year on year find new ways to make themselves heard above the noise and move outside their comfort zones.

As we find new ways of understanding ourselves and our world and discover new forms of community we will build the new institutions and new businesses of the interactive age.

V21 2010 presents recent case studies of what worked and what didn’t and looks at the emerging opportunities in the travel, retail and entertainment industries.

With presentations from: ABC, Sitepoint, Red Bubble, Catalogue Central, Citrus, Perfumania, Onelove Music Group, Sound Alliance, FremantleMedia Enterprises and the AIIA .

www.v21.com.au

=======================================
Phew! Told you it was long. If you read this far and are at the next MoMoMelb event on March 15th – come and say “Eggplant” to Justin and I’ll buy you a beer for your staying power and obvious dedication to this crazy industry!

Cheers

The Mobile Monday Team

As I type this (according to the ABS) Australia has a population of 21,770,471 people.
While as business people it makes complete sense to target our work to the latter, of course different markets present different challenges and opportunities, so cultural sensibilities count for a lot.

This month MoMoMelb welcomes two local business operators who have gained their extensive knowledge from focusing on the massive market opportunities of Asia and Europe and also we welcome Zubair Jandali from AdMob, who will shed some light on the US market and some of the differences between the US and Australian markets.

Thanks everyone for coming along on Monday night. It was another great event and we had heaps of positive feedback from members. Thanks again to Tony Lay from Iron Monkey, Robert Murray from Firemint , Anton Sher from Front Foot and Zac Jacobs from Dux Digital.

It looks like we have grown beyond the constraints of our regular venue, Horse Bazaar. Our April event was so jam packed (with more than 120 enthusiastic MoMoers) that we nearly flowed out the door. Apologies to those who were stuck down the back and couldn’t participate in the (very interesting!) question time. We’re now on the hunt for a new, bigger venue that will be as welcoming and supportive as Horse Bazaar – a tough ask.

If you’re interested in checking out Zac Jacobs presentation from last Monday night, you can find it now on Slideshare. Zac from Dux Digital on Mobile Games

Zac tells us that a lot of the data from his presentation came from a report by Portio Research. Mobile Entertainment Futures 2009-2010. Check the website for a full description and a detailed brochure. If MoMo Melbourne members are interested in seeing the full report, Zac has negotiated with the author to secure a 30% discount for MoMo Melbourne. To receive the discount, email John White on info@portioresearch.com and mention the promo code momomelb.

This month the MoMoMelb Team are very excited to present a special and timely event on the topic of Mobile Games.

Why timely, you might ask, well, here’s a Quick quiz…

Which is the #1 iPhone App world-wide right now?

*50s thinking muzak*

The Answer? Our very own Firemint’s ‘Flight Control‘, that’s what!

Join us back at Horse Bazaar on Monday May 11th as we invite Firemint‘s Robert Murray to shed some light on the runway he and his crew took to obtain international success with this overwhelmingly addictive and delightfully simple game. (Some people describe it as a Potato Chip, because you can’t play it just once).

The Mobile Games industry is a massive growth area internationally and a space wherein Melbournians have very real reason to hold their heads up high – with a number of local studios competing at the VERY top of their game on the global market.

So, come along and hear from the world’s best about the mobile games industry, the opportunity, the challenges and prehaps some tips to crack the big time.

Horse Bazaar / Monday May 11th / 6pm for a 6.30 punctual start

Some yummy sushi will be passed around.

See you there

The MoMoMelb Team
